Madonna's half-time show...

She, it, was curiously flat.

I detest the new single but the "Like A Prayer" finale worked but a person with her ego never wants to risk being upstaged.

And the game walked all over the Material Girl.

I get it, it's all about awareness, it's all about selling tickets. And from what I understand, if you're a fan, or enjoy productions by Rob Marshal, you liked this extravaganza, you'll wanna go to the show. But on a musical level...

It just wasn't about music.

Great performances are about that little something extra, something indefinable that touches your core. And that's what was missing here. There was no sense of majesty, no soulfulness, just a middle-aged performer trying too hard to impress.

But I'm not sure she was trying to impress us.

And when the stage was dismantled and the game resumed her performance was forgotten, not god-awful like the Black Eyed Peas, but not mind-blowingly fantastic like Prince.

Then again, as well as Mr. Nelson moves, he's all about the music. He can play, he can sing, video only made us aware of his greatness, it did not define it.

Furthermore, the whole half-time production seemed dated. From another era where excess was applauded, when life was fun and problems were pushed under the rug. Only now, our problems are front and center. And it's clear that Madonna, like the rest of the 1%, really wants nothing to do with us, she only wants our money. Sure, everyone still likes to party, but you got no impression that Madonna wanted you up on stage, celebrating with her. If anything, you felt if you ran up, you'd get kicked off.

Today's music is all about inclusiveness. The swell of public appreciation is what truly matters. And you won't get universal approval of Madonna's Super Bowl appearance, it was a niche event on the main stage. And this is dangerous. You only want to play for naysayers if you can convert them.

And Madonna did not. She failed miserably. She was stiff, and she obviously never rehearsed in her "costumes".

Back to her awful new single, what's up with the narcissism in the song, the endless repetition of her own name? Didn't that peak with Wang Chung back in the eighties?

And if you're gonna knock Lady Gaga, you don't follow it up with a song that screams Toni Basil.

And someone should tell Madge, "Never do someone else's act." The magic disappearance at the end smacked of nothing so much as Michael Jackson, another superstar who became so enamored of his fame that he lost touch with his audience.

Fun, fun show guys! Jody, I think we can agree on the fact, that anybody that mandates drug testing, should be drug tested also. I would extend it to the private sector as well as our elected officials. Also, I have to agree that our President has had to fight every step of his administration, especially since the 2010 Republican House win.
Can't wait for next weeks show! Great job, nice to have an hour of fun and thinking in my world of chaos! Thanx!

Great show guys, Sean DON'T quit. I just have to say, as a gay man, I can't stand Rick Perry, and of course love Meryl Streep! Also, Jody, I never get tired of hearing about the 98 Golden Globes when all the rich people kept taking your expensive "American Spirit" cigarettes!

OH...and can we end the GLEE bashing? Just leave it be...you don't have to watch it. I don't. But there are people who really get a rush from it and it makes people sing whom might otherwise not. Let 'em sing kids.
Now...back to trying to order my Colbert 2012 banner...

I'm in South Carolina and I've ordered a "Stephen Colbert 2012" banner for my balcony. If someone's going to make no sense, it might as well be a comedian.
Legs...get back to work...but certainly let Rick visit on occasion.

Glad to know you are clean shaven now....not defending the reality show per se, just angry with Lowes decision to pull advertising based on bigotry. Personally, I don't like any reality shows...since they are not actually real anyway. Figured Legs would be dead to you...thems was fightin' words. Talk at you later.
